    The VVR has a need for a seasoned Breakfast Cook:

    Skills and Job Requirements:

    • Ideal candidates will have working knowledge of all line positions, broil, fry, pantry, as well as egg skills.
    • Prep and good knife skills a must.
    • Breakfast is an important meal for our active customers, before they go off to continue their thru-hike or adventurous day activities.
    • Ability to cook and plate 50 to 60 covers per shift.
    • Ability to create lunch specials.
    • Ability to take charge of your kitchen when on-shift.
    • Responsible for proper food handling and storage practices to ensure food safety.
    • Takes direction well and can execute head cooks food style.
    • Self-motivated with good positive can-do energy. Must have the mature personality to work through normal kitchen issues. (collaboration among other staff members is key in this kitchen)


    Benefits:

    • 5 day work week, 2 consecutive days off to explore the John Muir Wilderness, Yosemite & Kings Canyon National Parks, and all that the golden state has to offer.

The Vermilion Valley resort is rated a #1 stop on the JMT and is a top layover spot for the PCT thru-hikers which requires our staff to have excellent customer service skills.     Customers include our throngs of hungry thru-hikers, lodge guests and a staff of 15. Fresh home-style food is what we have served in the past. Our meat and vegetables are sourced locally and we have always given creative license to our cooks. We are known up and down the PCT and JMT trails for our good food, including fresh baked pies, our famous Saturday night BBQs, and hearty breakfasts. We are a popular dining destination as we are the only food available to go in the region and people love the adventurous ambiance and to take a rest on their wilderness journey while enjoying our wonderful meal!

    If you are into an off-the-grid challenge and are looking for the opportunity to control, manage and profit by directing your own restaurant we may be a good fit.

    VVR employees live and work on-site in this beautiful part of the Sierra National Forest, located 80 miles from Fresno on the edge of the John Muir Wilderness. Employees must be able to thrive in an off the grid environment at 7700' in elevation. The typical season is the Memorial Holiday weekend through the first weekend of October.  We require our staff to have excellent customer service skills, a positive attitude and for the restaurant an enthusiastic approach toward cooking and serving.

    We have made significant improvements to the kitchen and restaurant over the past offseason including all new epoxy non slip flooring, new stainless steel sinks, tables and shelving and butcher block serving window. It is a very efficient kitchen, with a great patio and outdoor dining.

    Note: We implemented a brand new wood burning pizza oven in the 2021 season. We are excited to start serving homemade pizzas to the hungry hikers.

    Spend the summer at Vermilion Valley Resort! Nestled in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains between Yosemite and Kings Canyon national parks. Our scenic and rustic restaurant features a full service menu offering creative daily specials, hand-cut steaks, healthy and hearty cuisine, and a large selection of micro-brews.

    Employees must be able to thrive in an off the grid location, work through September (some positions can go into mid Oct), and most importantly; work and play well with others.     We are looking for anyone with at least 1 year cooking experience to apply. Whether you are pantry, fry, sautee or breakfast you will leave with solid experience in all aspects of a breakfast, lunch and dinner operation. Given that we are in such a remote area, we give preference to individuals with specific thru hiking/off the gird experience.   • Prep Cook

    This position will start in late May and go to late September.

    The individual we are looking for should have basic restaurant kitchen skills including food handling procedures, organizational and knife skills. Willingness to learn is a must. Position will include assisting kitchen leads with prep, cleaning and occasional shift coverage. Baking experience a plus.

    Our team is here to make great food and enjoy ourselves while working hard - so the ability to focus and adapt while maintaining a positive attitude and energy is a requirement.

    Bonus: VVR is a Crew-Share organization; All tips gathered throughout the resort are shared equally among the employees.

    Competent, mature, self-starting housekeepers that are able to work closely together are wanted for our small but busy back-country lodge.

    Housekeeping is a key component to a visitor’s positive experience and we put great emphasis on clean and well organized rooms and tent cabins. Our rustic lodge sits well into the high country and it is fun to surprise our guests with tidy facilities and great food.

    Our housekeeping team shares and is responsible for: 4 - motel rooms, 3 - yurts, 3 - cabins, and 6 - tent cabins.

    The Vermilion Valley Resort features a restaurant, store, motel, tent cabins, yurts, water taxi service and marina.

    Qualifications desired: This position begins in late May and will go into late September. You will be assigned lodging assignments which become your responsibility, while taking ownership of those responsibilities you must be able to work independently of supervision, and maintain your area. You must be a meticulous cleaner and able to adapt to different cleaning needs. You will collaborate with the on-duty front desk and manager. Our employees take pride in their positions which requires a hardworking and collaborative work attitude.

    Wages: You earn 16.00 an hour + tips.

    Bonus: All employees participate in the Crew Share Tip Program. All tips are gathered from within the resort and shared equally among staff.

    Cost of Living is minimal as you will live and work on-site. What you earn will be what you keep because of our remote setting. So, if you are looking to save your paychecks this could be a setting for you.

  • Front Desk / General Store

    We are a rustic lodge with a small intimate staff that is in need of an experienced, seasoned individual or couple to handle multiple Front Desk and General Store chores at our main counter. The Vermilion Valley Resort features a restaurant, store, motel, tent cabins, yurt cabin, tiny houses, water taxi service and we have a rental fleet of 12’-14’ Honda powered 4-stroke fishing boats as well as SUP's and Kayaks..

    Qualifications desired: This position requires that you are first and foremost an ambassador for the property. We welcome our guests whether they hike in or drive in and get them started on what the next steps are after they arrive. This is a position for someone who thrives on multitasking and loves personal interactions.

    The individual(s) chosen for this key position are drug- free, non-smokers and will report directly to the manager or owners. Working knowledge of computers, ability to multi-task, and pleasant attitude is a must. The ability to diagnose problems, prioritize and handle critical pressure situations is required. This is an active front-line position.

    You will handle cash, credit cards, and guest tabs. We require all our staff to have excellent customer service skills, a nice appearance coupled with a positive attitude, and packaged with a lot of fun energy. Our ultimate goal is to provide every guest with a quality stay. Many of our guests are regulars and VVR is not your typical touristy setting; which makes it more fun and lively setting.

    Pay is $16.00 per hour plus your Crew Share weekly and monthly tips.

    Bonus: All employees participate in the Crew-Share program where tips gathered through-out the resort are shared equally among staff. Typically $500.00 or more a month.

  • Outside Grounds Crew + Kitchen/Housekeeping Support

    Self-starting, interactive individual that is able to work closely with our primary crew for our small but busy back-country lodge. You will be assigned to keep the property grounds tidy and maintained as well as being a rover to help your fellow crew. While taking ownership of those responsibilities you must be able to work independently of supervision, and maintain your area. Personal incentive is important with this position and the guests will LOVE you for it. Being a well-rounded multitasker who takes pride in their hard work is a must!

    Bottonline: Our employees take pride in their positions and responsibilities which requires a good can-do and collaborative work attitude.

    You will report to the on-duty manager. This position is responsible for: keeping/cleaning the hiker shower and laundry building, stocking wood and ice, upkeep or septic and trash/recycling/cardboard, and occasional dishwashing and housekeeping.

    Bonus: Tips collected throughout the resort/restaurant are shared by all employees. (Crew-Share Program)

  • Maintenance Crew

    Maintenance
    $20.00 / hour

    Experienced individual to handle multiple maintenance chores in and around our 5 acre facility and grounds.

    Our Resort features a restaurant, store, motel, tent cabins, yurt cabin, water taxi service and we have a rental fleet of 12’-14’ Honda powered 4-stroke fishing boats. We function completely off the grid with two large diesel generators that furnish our electricity, water is pumped from our well and sewage is handled by multiple septic systems. Must have a working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and a mechanical aptitude are a must.

    The ability to diagnose problems, prioritize and handle critical pressure situations is required. You and the other 2-3 outside/grounds support staff, will maintain boats, water system, building maintenance, make small repairs or work on a big repair/building project. 

    Hard working attitude and clear communication skills are vital.
