About Space Camp

Home to Space Camp®, Aviation Challenge® Camp, and Robotics Camp - the U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) is the largest spaceflight museum in the world. Its large rocket and space hardware collection is valued in the tens of millions of dollars. From America’s first satellite, Explorer I, to next-generation space vehicles like Sierra Nevada’s Dream Chaser, the museum showcases the past, present, and future of human spaceflight. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center serves as the Official NASA Visitor Center for Marshall Space Flight Center and is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Huntsville (also fondly known as the Rocket City) is located in northern Alabama in the heart of the Tennessee Valley, less than two hours south of Nashville and north of Birmingham.

Huntsville has received many accolades that include most recently: one of the top ten places to live in the United States, one of the fastest growing metros in the country, and one of the country's top 10 cities for job growth and affordability. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is also home of one of the Seven Wonders of America selected by ABC’s Good Morning America, the Saturn V Rocket.

If coming to camp with a vehicle, parking will be provided for you on campus free of change. It is nice to have a vehicle as many people enjoy being close enough to Nashville, Atlanta, Birmingham, and Gatlinburg to make day trips, or simply to be able to explore the city and surrounding areas on their own pace. However, members of our staff are able to comfortably live at the center without a vehicle. We can arrange for you to be picked up from our local airport, bus or train station upon arrival. For city travel, we have a bus that makes a stop directly in front of our facility. Additionally, Uber and Lyft are very accessible in the area. The heart of Huntsville and downtown areas are a mere 5 miles away from the Center, making the fare cheap and the fun abundant!

For Fun

Although working at Space Camp means that there is so much fun to be had in your own backyard, Huntsville will not fail to entertain with many local concerts, downtown events, 60+ parks & greenways, food trucks, breweries, farmers markets and the Southeast's largest center for the arts.

The Huntsville Botanical Garden is less than a mile and a half away from Space Camp, featuring 112 beautiful acres with trails, hammocks, and a butterfly house. One of our premier shopping areas, Bridgestreet Town Center, is less than two and a half miles away. Touting numerous restaurants, a movie theater, and a plethora of shopping - this open air mall is one to enjoy throughout the year.

Other notable attractions in the vicinity include Topgolf, Pints and Pixels old-school arcade, and Campus 805 entertainment center (a multifaceted facility housed in a former middle school with everything from a painting party studio to axe throwing!).
