Odiyan Buddhist Center resident work-study volunteer program includes room and board, living allowance, Buddhist classes, practice and study. 

Join our unique Buddhist art projects: large scale terracotta clay monuments, Buddhist decorative art in concrete casting, metal work, sublimation printing and sewing.  

Give your full engagement while learning about Buddhism through classes, practices and study sessions. Also broad instruction in Buddhist art and architecture.

Buddhist Sacred Art projects for 2024

  • Crafting 186 Clay Stupas: Stupas are Buddhist sacred monuments that represent and activate harmonious and healing forces in the world. This is a monumental project sculpting, molding, building and firing in red terracotta clay. The stupas are inspired by styles and traditional forms from a great span Buddhist eras and regions around the world. 
  • Buddhist Sacred Art Installation: Work in the creative realm of art installation, both outdoors and in the temples. Provides an opportunity to experience and learn a wide range of skills including metalwork and welding, woodwork, painting on a variety of surfaces, decorative casting and finishing in concrete, and sublimation printing. 
  • Buddhist sacred art in fabric: Fabric art in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition which is primarily donated to Tibetan Buddhist temples, schools, libraries,  monasteries, nunneries and holy places in Asia. Prior experience with machine sewing required.

You must be physically strong and good with working with your hands, with some experience in using tools in any trade. The Odiyan lifestyle is physically active. Gaining self-knowledge and giving to a higher vision are honored values.  

Entry dates available until June 15, 2024.

The minimum commitment is 6 months, with the possibility to extend into 2025.
